[Pronounced: NEE*SSH]
I really despise when people say this word incorrectly because it points out how much they really don’t know what they’re talking about, let alone know what to look for and focus on.
With that being said, we have to first learn what a niche is, why it’s important for us to define our niche, and then start building an honorable profession so when we look back on our work, we can identify our growth and measure from where we started.
A niche is a curation of our aspects that acknowledges how we identify ourselves and what it is that we offer with a precise definition of our work. Everyone’s niche is uniquely tailored to them, so if I address myself as a model, my niche answers “what kind of model” I am.
Most models are insanely versatile and will carry a list of interests that they pursue in modeling, but 1 too many titles can actually hold back their success. Think about your favorite models and all that they do within their careers. Usually the most fortunate models are fixated within their niche; therefore, you want to be able to identify yourself down to your main focus as a model, and who you are most interested in working with.
I’ve listed 22 model headliners you can start adopting immediately:
- High fashion model
- Editorial model
- Runway model
- Print/Catalog model
- Commercial model
- Fitness model
- Parts model
- Glamour model
- Swimsuit/Lingerie model
- Hair model
- Plus-size model
- Promotional model
- Art model
- Fit model
- Petite model
- Mature model
- Child model
- Androgynous model
- Pinup model
- Events model
- Spokesmodel
- Freelance model
Understand that you can choose as many of these handles that suit you as you’re building your portfolio. However, when you are niching down to your concentration, you want the transition to be smooth and compatible because at the end of the day, what you deliver best is what will be lucrative for you in this line of work. I mean, you can damn well do it all, but don’t strain yourself trying to do it all considering that you just might not get as far as you hope. My advice to all models is to find your passions and who you would want to work with, label yourself with up to 5 of these headliners, stay in your lane, and support the other models within your breadth.
“You wanna be on top?” Well, this is how you get there.
