Of course, anyone can be a model with training and precision.

Understand that modeling is serious sh*t!! Most of us models are passionate about our craft, and it is not taken lightly when we are aiming for a goal to meet. It is never about being better or looking better than the next model (which a lot of Instagram models shoot for); rather, it is the thrill of the competition, knowing that you, as the model, are capable of bringing someone’s imagination to life while enjoying the amusement.

So, here is where I will identify the persona of those who will actually make a great model. Below is a list of qualities to point out what separates a great, long-lasting career model (whether up-and-coming or seasoned) from anyone who can fit the model “criteria”:

1. You must be ready for the spotlight. Models are usually the center of attention, yet great models know how to keep a crowd entertained. There is no time to waste worrying about if you are as astounding as the next model. Your confidence needs to show up strong and solid.
2. You have to be willing and able to accept constructive criticism. Yes, the lovely compliments will come, but in order for growth, there will be tough conversations you need to hear. Like I mentioned before, modeling is very similar to a sport because it requires practice before the performance. A coach is highly recommended for models to devise the areas where they will work best in and what areas they need strengthening.
3. Obviously, you need to know your strengths!! Having a niche helps you identify where your modeling pursuit is the centered. 4. You have to eagerly seek training and development in your area. Think about it — a tennis player is always brushing up on their skills, and must stay in the best shape to compete with their counterparts. In short, every career path (not just sports) encourages improvement. Get into the mindset of wanting to progress. This is where you rise up, okay! Don’t sleep on this one. This also makes great networking opportunities for you to meet other models, book more gigs and get more familiar with your local community.
5. Be willing to volunteer your services. It’s always a plus to extend yourself to fill in the gaps where you can freely practice your craft and receive suggestions on improving. Sometimes stepping up as more than a model, performing duties like hair, makeup, or even photography, will show just how well-rounded you are. These other skills come in handy where your capabilities can’t be ‘overlooked’ when building your reputation.
6. Speak up for yourself! Take every opportunity to promote the things you want to offer of yourself. Use your voice and grasp the audience’s attention. Don’t ever forget to make yourself heard because your voice is what makes you memorable, okay, so make them remember you!!!! This is the goal you need to grow into a maven. 7. Last, but definitely not least… Create your own opportunities. Take a great deal of time to plan out a few activities over time, especially when there’s not many events coming up. Set realistic timeframes to complete them, and create an eagerness to see your ideas into fruition. You never know how your creative vision can inspire others in ways where they actually want to help you get to your goals faster. The feeling of setting expectations and fulfilling them can be a greater reward than taking part in other affairs. Think about sis….
